The Capital Market Task Force has recommended in a report to the government that we should float State-Owned Enterprises on the share market to improve out financial markets in New Zealand. According to the report, New Zealand's investment markets are not very strong and that the public is wary of investing in bonds and managed funds, preferring to put their money into investment properties. The task force believes that that by floating SOE's we may be able to improve our capital markets and end New Zealand's love affair with property investment. To give some context to the task force report and to offer his opinion, I'm joined by Bernard Hickey, the managing director of Interest.co.nz

One of the bigger public battles this year was over proposed changes to copyright law as part of the Government's efforts to battle illegal downloading. In particular, controversy surrounded section 92A of the Copyright Amendment Act which made it a requirement for ISP's to terminate the accounts of those they suspect to be repeat copyright offenders. Following massive public outcry the amendment was scrapped and the government went back to the drawing board to rethink copyright legislation. Following some quiet months for copyright it seems a new piece of legislation is on the way and yesterday the government announced a revamped bill. Joining me on the show to discuss the government's latest proposed changes to our copyright law is Bronwyn Holloway Smith, one of the outspoken critics of the original legislation and co-founder of the Creative Freedom Foundation.

Chelsea Robinson (part of the New Zealand Youth delegation to Copenhagen Climate Talks)

This morning I spoke to Chelsea Robinson who has been part of a youth delegation in Copenhagen lobbying to have the government agree to reduce emissions by 40% as opposed to their current proposal of 10-20%. Chelsea says she is representing youth, as climate change is something that the youth of today are going to inherit and be impacted by and yet are virtually unrepresented in New Zealand official delegation.

Chances are, scrapping the system of trial by jury is not the top priority for most New Zealanders. Not many of us woke up this morning and felt dead keen on dumping our centuries-old right to be tried by a jury of our peers, while yearning to adopt the French system of justice by a judge and a couple of court-appointed experts.
