Graeme Hunt, RIP

One of the few New Zealand journalists worthy of the name died this week. Graeme Hunt, onetime news editor and then editor-at-large for the National Business Review, passed away on Wednesday. An independent candidate for the Albany ward of the new Auckland supercity council, Graeme had been diagnosed with heart problems, and was found dead after he failed to turn up for a campaign meeting (I'm sure he wouldn't mind my saying that was a great way of getting out of it). He was 58.

Graeme was a forthright proponent of free enterprise. The nostrums of socialism stank in his nostrils. He was horrified at the socialist advances made possible by MMP, which I myself refer to as "More Marxists in Parliament," and was an avid campaigner against it, co-founding the lobby group, Put MMP to the Vote, and writing a book, Why MMP Has to Go.

Our paths crossed many times over the years, on radio and television. If memory serves me correctly the most recent interview I did with him was on Radio Live, about his then-latest book on the history of subversion in New Zealand, a work in which my Bolshevik grandfather Leo Sim featured prominently!

Graeme was always a pleasure to interview, being what we call "great talent" - clear, coherent and courageous. Public discourse in New Zealand will be much the poorer for his passing.

Facebook is for fuckwits, Twitter is for twits ...

Speaking of poor public discourse, 500 million fuckwits must have been suicidal this morning when that without which they cannot function itself failed to function. Yes, Facebook went down - or rather, was "experiencing site issues," causing life issues for the drones and dullards who witter on there about the numbingly tedious minutiae of their excruciatingly uninteresting lives. The poor twits had no option but to witter on Twitter about their distress. What a shame they didn't just go play on the road and become candidates for the Darwin Awards. As an unreconstructed dinosaur I marvel at and applaud these super-human technologies, but am aghast at the paradox of their being a playground for so many sub-humans.

Assassadinejad

One of the sub-humans' number has been acting up, again, at the United Nations. Mahmoud Israel-Is-Doomed Ahmadinejad, hereinafter to be referred to as "Adolf" (well, he's short, creepy, mustachioed and anti-semitic ... besides, it saves all that typing), unapologetic Islamostoner and President of the Islamosuperstitionist Republic of Iran, informed the General Assembly that capitalism is in its death throes and America orchestrated 9/11. This sly savage's distance from reality is well enough known, of course - the last time he was on U.S. soil he claimed there were no homosexuals in Iran (although that may be true given his country's penchant for hanging them) - but one is entitled to wonder why on earth he's allowed into the country at all?! A commitment to freedom does not oblige civilized countries to allow free passage to those with whom they're at war, and the Islamostoners long since declared war on America and all Western Civilization. The only reason America should allow Islamonazis like Adolf in is to assassinate them.

Spracher Pelosi

Mind you, that would raise the question of what to do with the Nazis in one's own midst. Na(n)zi Pelosi, for instance. This wretch, who not so long ago was calling for the "investigation" of Tea Party members, couldn't wait to mount her broomstick to denounce the Republicans' Pledge to America, which commits them to - horreurs! - repairing to the Founding Fathers' concept of government and squaring all legislation with the Constitution. "Congressional Republicans are pledging to ship jobs overseas, blow a $700 billion hole in the deficit to give tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires; turn Social Security from a guaranteed benefit into a guaranteed gamble; once again, subject American families to the recklessness of Wall Street; and take away patients' rights," she cackled. No surprises there. This is the same Na(n)zi Pelosi who, you'll recall, when questioned about the constitutionality of Obamacare, responded, "Are you serious?" Christine O'Donnell may have flirted with witchcraft as a teenager; Na(n)zi Pelosi is a foundation/life member of the original coven.

Obamadinejad

Na(n)zi Pelosi may not have trumpeted the demise of capitalism the way Adolf did, but she is most assuredly working as assiduously as he towards that objective - as is Obama himself. The community organiser's refusal to lay down the law to Adolf re Iran's nuclear intentions is simply another instance of this. Just hours before Adolf did his rant, the commie organ was assuring him that "the door remains open to diplomacy should Iran choose to walk through it." It's tempting to dismiss the commie organ as a "useful idiot," in Comrade Lenin's sense of the term, but with all that Alinsky and Reverend Wright in his background, we must assume The Anti-American President knows exactly what he's doing.
