The Sea Shephed vessel Steve Irwin arrived in Wellington today, "for a brief stop in Wellington before they join the rest of their fleet and continue their mission to protect and save whales from illegal poachers in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary". [A couple of shots of the Steve Irwin in the harbor at 44john.com.]

There is an official welcome and activity programme planned for the weekend, but the docked ship was still catching the interest of passers-by on Queen's Wharf, including a number of tourists.

Also newly-arrived, but catching less attention at the time, was French navy patrol boat La Glorieuse. Also conducting tours at the weekend (on Saturday), it happens to be docked such that its artillery piece is pointed at the Steve Irwin.
