Search and Surveillance Bill Changes To Be Debated

When Parliament sits next week the Government would seek to make progress on the controversial Search and Surveillance Bill, Leader of the House Gerry Brownlee said.

Shadow Leader of the House Trevor Mallard asked whether MPs would get 48 hours to consider the Government’s proposed amendments as a ``large gap’’ remained between National and Labour over the bill.

Brownlee said he was sure any undertakings on procedure would be honoured.

Brownlee also said in his Business Statement to the House that the Government would also seek to make progress on the Crown Pastoral Land (Rent for Pastoral Leases) Amendment Bill and the Building Amendment Bill (No 3).

The House would sit under extended hours provisions on Thursday March 8 to progress a number of treaty settlement bills.

Select committee financial reviews were presented on the :

2010/11 financial review of the Inland Revenue Department by the Finance and Expenditure Committee;

2010/11 financial review of Archives New Zealand by the Government Administration Committee; and the

2010/11 financial review of the National Library of New Zealand by the Government Administration Committee.
