Business Statement And No Nukes Motion

After a one week adjournment next week, the Government will complete the set piece Budget Debate and make progress on a number of first and second readings of bills, Acting Leader of the House Anne Tolley told MPs today.

Tolley said in the business statement that a Members Day would held on June 13.

By leave Maryan Street moved the House:

• celebrate the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the New Zealand Nuclear Free Zone, Disarmament, and Arms Control Act;

• reaffirm the commitment of New Zealand to the achievement of a nuclear-weapons-free world;

• welcome the 2010 agreement of States Parties to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty that any use of nuclear weapons could create catastrophic humanitarian consequences and that all States must play a role in building the framework for a nuclear-weapons-free world;

• commend Norway for its announcement to hold a conference in 2013 on humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons in order to build political momentum for a global ban; and

• call on the New Zealand Government to provide its highest support for this conference.

The motion passed on a voice vote.

Select committee reports were presented on the
Report from the Controller and Auditor-General on The Treasury: Implementing and managing the Crown Retail Deposit Guarantee Scheme and the Non-bank Deposit Takers Bill (312-2)
as reported by the Finance and Expenditure Committee.
