MPs Edge Towards Alcohol Debate

Parliament’s Business Committee will discuss how to proceed with the Alcohol Reform Bill at its next meeting, MPs were told today.

Deputy Leader of the House Anne Tolley said in the weekly business statement that next week would be a one week recess. Following this the Government would seek to complete the remaining stages of the Appropriation (2012/13 Estimates) Bill and the Exclusive Economic Zone and Continental Shelf (Environmental Effects) Bill.

Shadow Leader of the House Trevor Mallard asked if in the next three weeks the Government would seek to deal with age issues in the Alcohol Reform Bill and then move to deal with the substantive matters in the bill.

He also asked when the Government would seek SOPs so they could be dealt with in an organised manner.

Tolley said the Leader of the House has said he would discuss issues around alcohol law reform at the next meeting of the Business Committee

MPs began Question Time.
