Police And Privileges

When Parliament resumed at 2pm Speaker Lockwood Smith told MPs that he had referred a number of agreements between himself and the Police and Security Intelligence Service to the Privileges Committtee.

Smith said the agreements were on how the agencies conducted their work when it involved the Parliamentary precinct and MPs generally; since these agreements had to be reviewed and had an impact on MPs privileges he was referring them to the Privileges Committee for their scrutiny.

Annual reports were presented from the Parole Board, Defence Force and the Clerk of the House.

A report by the Auditor General ``Effectiveness of arrangements to check the standard of rest home services: Follow-up report’’ was tabled.

Report from the Controller and Auditor-General, Reviewing Financial Management in Central Governmentand Report from the Controller and Auditor-General, Fraud Awareness, Prevention, and Detection in the Public Sector by the Finance and Expenditure Committee

The Social Security (Benefit Categories and Work Focus) Amendment Bill and the Public Safety (Public Protection Orders) Bill were introduced.
