Grant Robertson, who was previously deputy leader, will take over as Labour leader of the house. Shane Jones and Mr Robertson will also have roles in economic development and employment.

Sue Moroney is the new senior whip and Iain Lees-Galloway is junior whip.

There would be new, larger, 15-person shadow cabinet which would play a more formal role in policy initiatives and strategy. Mr Robertson would lead a new strategic house committee.

Mr Cunliffe said he would be grilling the Prime Minster about the “magnificent continuation of crony capitalism” in the house this afternoon.

A full cabinet reshuffle will be announced on Monday.
