David Parker New Labour Deputy Leader
By Hamish Cardwell
David Parker is the new deputy leader of the Labour Party and remains the party's spokesperson on finance.
David Cunliffe said Mr Parker would make an “outstanding deputy”.
“He is a man of intellect and integrity, with the Labour values of opportunity and fairness at his core. I could not be happier with his elevation.”
He said there had been only one nomination for deputy.
Grant Robertson, who was previously deputy leader, will take over as Labour leader of the house. Shane Jones and Mr Robertson will also have roles in economic development and employment.
Sue Moroney is the new senior whip and Iain Lees-Galloway is junior whip.
There would be new, larger, 15-person shadow cabinet which would play a more formal role in policy initiatives and strategy. Mr Robertson would lead a new strategic house committee.
Mr Cunliffe said he would be grilling the Prime Minster about the “magnificent continuation of crony capitalism” in the house this afternoon.
A full cabinet reshuffle will be announced on Monday.
