Film Sale Ban Extension To Be Debated

A bill extending a ban on the sale of films until they have been shown in cinemas will be debated when Parliament sits today.

MPs will return to the interrupted second reading debate of the Copyright (Parallel Importing of Films) Amendment Bill after Question Time today.

The bill is supported by National and Labour though all parties have expressed doubts about the ban being extended after the rollover in this bill expires.

The ban is intended to give cinemas time to adjust to new technology and is intended to stop the sale of film copies until the film has been released in New Zealand cinemas for four months.

After this MPs will debate the third reading of the Family Court Proceedings Reform Bill.
