New Clerk Appointed

The appointment of David Wilson as the next Clerk of the House was formally announced when Parliament resumed at 2pm.

Speaker David Carter said Mr Wilson would take up the role from July for seven years.

Leader of the House Gerry Brownlee congratulated Mr Wilson on his appointment as the latest in a history of fine Clerks

Mr Brownlee said after a one week adjournment when the House next sat on May 19 the Government would seek to progress the New Zealand Superannuation and Retirement Income Amendment Bill and the Waitangi National Trust Board Amendment Bill.

May 21 would be Budget Day.

Labour MP Nanaia Mahuta moved a notice without motion and debate that the House mark the death of Erima Henare. It was passed on a voice vote.

The register of interests of MPs was presented.
