Body recovered in flooded Bracken Street, Petone

Police have recovered the body of a 80-year-old male near Sladden Park in Bracken Street, Petone.

The man’s car was found submerged in water around 11.30am this morning with keys in the ignition.

Staff have searched the area and located the man’s body in flooded water near his vehicle late this afternoon.

There are no suspicious circumstances relating to his death.

Police are currently working to notify next of kin and the death has been referred to the Coroner.

Meanwhile Police are reminding all motorists if travelling to please take extra care and expect delays as conditions are still treacherous with extensive flooding in many areas.
