Storm, Floods and Road Closures Fail to Stop New Combination

15 May 2015 - Heavy rain and severe weather caused havoc in Wellington yesterday. It resulted in road closures to State Highway 1, flooding, and heavy traffic congestion throughout Wellington and surrounding areas.

“This is one of those situations you cannot predict but have to react to as quickly as possible; we wanted to get our customers to their destinations as quickly as possible and safely”, said ManaBus.com CEO Sheryll Otway.

ManaBus.com worked together with Naked Bus and Wellington based Mana Coach Services to transfer northbound passengers 50 kilometres from Wellington to Paraparaumu, where they joined their northbound services. Southbound passengers were then taken Wellington. The plan was explained by ManaBus.com Operations Supervisor Nick Burton. “Using Mana Coach Services buses we picked up 18 Naked Bus passengers and 34 ManaBus.com passengers from Bunny Street in Wellington. It was slow going in the conditions, but we reached Mana Coach Services’ depot in Paraparaumu soon after 12:30. Customers were given a quick snack and then joined their northbound coaches...Southbound passengers from the overnight ManaBus.com service were treated to coffee and catering while they waited for the arrival of the-buses to take themk onto Wellington.”

North Bound passenger Amanda Afaauga appreciated the combined efforts. “Although travel delays are disappointing, you can’t really blame anyone in situations like this. Even with a slight delay I’m happy we managed to get out of Wellington, unlike other bus services. The Mana Coach team did great. We felt safe the whole way. Everyone was very excited to get to the ManaBus.com bus and have some room to ourselves and get on the Wi-Fi. I’m so happy with how the services worked together under the circumstances.''

This is the first opportunity Naked Bus and ManaBus.com have had the chance to work together since Naked Bus was acquired by ManaBus.com last week. “Being on board with ManaBus.com means we can utilise each other’s networks and relationships with other businesses. In this case, we were able to make the most of sister company Mana Coach Services local knowledge and versatile fleet. Having Mana Coach in Wellington and Howick and Eastern Buses in Auckland gives us good support coverage across the whole of the North Island and is a great advantage for both companies. Dealing with unforeseen incidents like this becomes easier as our group expands”, explained Naked Bus Founder Hamish Nuttall.
