KiwiSaver Bill Passes Under Urgency

The KiwiSaver Budget Measures Bill has passed through all stages under Urgency.

MPs resumed debate on the committee stage of the bill at 9am.

The third reading of the bill was completed by 63 to 56 with National, Maori Party, ACT and United Future in favour. NZ First MP Ron Mark called for a personal vote to be called as he believed there was evidence of MPs votes being cast when they were not in Parliament.

The request was declined by Assistant Speaker Trevor Mallard. Parties have to have a proportion of MPs in the precinct of Parliament to cast their quota of MPs votes, the word of whips is usually accepted on these matters.

MPs then began the first reading of the Border Processing (Arrivals and Departures) Levy Bill. This is to be passed through all stages under the Urgency motion which followed Thursday’s Budget.
