1. The family of New Zealander Antony de Malmanche is devastated by the 15-year prison sentence he has been given for smuggling drugs into Bali. De Malmanche has said he did not know almost 2 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine was in his backpack when he flew to Bali from Hong Kong on 1 December last year.

2. Just hours before a deadline to repay a big loan, Greece is requesting a new two-year bailout deal from the European Union. It wants nearly $50 billion, coupled with restructuring of the country’s already huge debts to international lenders.

3. Meanwhile, the German Chancellor Angela Merkel says Germany will not negotiate on any new bailout agreement before Greece’s referendum, which is planned for Sunday. The Greek Prime Minister has called the referendum on the terms of the current bailout deal, which involves more austerity measures, and has encouraged his people to vote no.

4. NZ First says new cyber-bullying laws will help protect people from vicious online communications. Parliament has passed a bill that makes it a criminal offence to send harmful messages or post damaging images or comments online. Serious offences will attract up to two years in jail or fines of up to $50,000.

5. Indonesian officials say all 113 people aboard a military transport plane are believed to have died when it crashed on the island of Sumatra yesterday.
