Health And Safety Bill Debate Begins

The first reading of the Health Practitioners (Replacement of Statutory References to Medical Practitioners) Bill has been completed.

This Bill amends statutes to increase the range of functions that can be performed by health practitioners by changing references to medical practitioners to health practitioners.

After Question Time and the General Debate, MPs on a voice vote sent the bill to the Health Committee for consideration.

MPs then began the committee stage of the Health and Safety Reform Bill. This will dominate the rest of the day’s proceedings with the complex bill including six parts plus schedules. A number of amendments have already been tabled from other parties and the Government has indicated it will be introducing more as well.

The presiding officer Trevor Mallard said he expected the debate to be one of the longer ones in this Parliament.
