World Cup Alcohol Bill To Dominate Members Day
Today is Members’ day with proceedings in Parliament likely to be dominated by a bill concerning the Rugby World Cup and the opening of licensed premises.
On the last Members’ Day, ACT MP David Seymour received leave for the Sale and Supply of Alcohol (Extended licensing hours during Rugby World Cup) Bill to be given its first reading and undergo a shortened select committee process.
Leave was also received for the bill to be reported back today and given its second and third readings. The bill will allow licensed premises to open for the screening of Rugby World Cup games in the early hours of the morning without gaining a special license.
If this happens it will take place after Question Time and the General Debate. With two hours set down for each of the bills second and third readings it will leave only a little time left for the interrupted first reading of the Financial Assistance for Live Organ Donors Bill.
