Lime scooters are to be allowed back on Dunedin's streets, the e-scooter company says.

Lime said it and Dunedin City Council have reached a deal for their operation in the city.

A Lime spokesperson said the company was working to have the scooters back in Dunedin sometime this week, though a fixed date has not been provided.

A software fault was revealed which caused the scooter's breaks to lock, throwing riders from them in some cases.

There were 155 reported incidents nationwide, including 30 injures.

Auckland and Dunedin councils suspended the vehicles from their respective cities, but an independent report has provided reassurance the fault has now been fixed.

The scooters are likely to be back on Auckland streets this week.

Late last week Christchurch City Council voted to allow the number of Lime scooters in the city to increase to 1000, up 300.

The app also shows Queenstown as a town where they are now available, but the Queenstown Lakes District Council said a decision was still pending on their rollout in the tourist resort.
