Urewera Trial: No Verdict on 'Criminal Group' Charge
The jury in the Urewera trial has returned.
The jury has been unable to reach a verdict on the first charge of participation in an organised criminal group.
All defendants have been found guilty on some of the remaining charges, which include firearms offences.
The 'participation' charge was part of the reason video evidence that was found to be gathered illegally was admissable in the case of the four defendants but not of others, against whom the charges were dropped. Annemarie Thorby, reporting on the trial for Scoop, discussed the nature of the charge here.

Summary from October 15 Solidarity:
in the High Court at Auckland today the jury found the four - Tame Iti, Te Rangikaiwhiria Kemara, Urs Signer and Emily Bailey - were guilty of some of the 10 firearms charges each faced.Advertisement - scroll to continue readingEach defendant, except Urs Signer, was found guilty on five charges of unlawful possession of firearms, and one charge of unlawful possession of a restricted weapon - molotov cocktails.
Signer was found guilty on four charges of unlawful possession of firearms, and one charge of unlawful possession of a restricted weapon.
Each was found not guilty of of four charges each, except for Signer, who was found not guilty on five charges.
The Crown has opposed bail for the four.
