Banks Baiting Bill Debated

Parliament rose at 10pm interrupting debate on the second reading of the Local Electoral Amendment Bill (No 2).

Chris Tremain said the bill updated and tightened local electoral law.

It was generally supported by Opposition parties, but they delighted in reminding the Government that it was all about tightening up the loop holes in law that John Banks used in his bid for the Auckland Council mayoralty.

Earlier in the evening the Marine Legislation Bill completed its second reading on a voice vote.
