Reports And United Future's Future

Parliament resumed at 2pm with petitions and select committee reports presented.

Petitions were presented requesting the House mandate DHBs to provide greater choice of mental health treatment and the Government look into the effectiveness of mental health treatments, and the House inquire into the treatment of dioxins from a canal near Whakatane.

A report on the Reserve Bank of New Zealand’s Financial Stability Report, May 2013 by the Finance and Expenditure Committee was presented.

Trevor Mallard and Winston Peters requested the Speaker David Carter to revisit his decision to recognise the United Future for parliamentary purposes following its being deregistered as a political party.

Carter said Parliament was charting new waters and he was treading carefully. He had expected a time line lasting up to eight weeks, this now looked like it would be extended and he would reconsider his ruling if it became necessary.
