Parliament Resumes

Parliament resumed today for a three week session in its penultimate sitting for the year.

A petition asking Parliament to ensure money was set aside for a future treaty settlement claim when Parliament resumed.

A number of annual reports were presented including those of the Human Rights Commission and the Serious Fraud Office.

The Auditor-General’s report on the Earthquake Commission: Managing the Canterbury Home Repair Programme was tabled.

Select committee reports were presented on the:

Border Processing (Trade Single Window and Duties) Bill by the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee

Royal Succession Bill by the Justice and Electoral Committee

International treaty examination of the Agreement between the Government of New Zealand and the Government of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income by the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee.

The Local Government Act 2002 Amendment Bill (No 3), Harmful Digital Communications Bill and the New Zealand Superannuation and Retirement Income Amendment Bill were introduced.

MPs then began Question Time.
