Urgency next week

The Government will put the House into Urgency next week as the end of the parliamentary year rapidly approaches.

When Parliament resumed today Leader of the House Gerry Brownlee said the Government would move an Urgency motion next Tuesday.

Amongst the bills to be progressed would be the Financial Reporting Bill and the Social Housing Reform (Housing Restructuring and Tenancy Matters Amendment) Bill. Brownlee indicated the Government would probably allow Question Time to proceed during Urgency.

After next week, there is a one week recess with the House likely to only sit for a fortnight after that before adjourning for the summer.

A petition asking the House to take all action possible to stop whaling in the Southern Ocean was presented.

The Government’s response to the Regulation Review Committee’s report on a complaint regarding Teachers Council rules was tabled as was a report of the Parliamentary delegation to Kyoto and the Auditor General’s report on attempts to fix pipes and roads in Christchurch.

The following bills were introduced:

Energy (Fuels, Levies, and References) Amendment Bill

Electoral (Adjustment of Thresholds) Amendment Bill

SuperGold Health Check Bill

MPs began Question Time.
