Plain Packaging Bill

MPs are likely to debate legislation bringing in plain packaging for tobacco products when the House sits today.

Parliament resumes after a one week adjournment to accommodate Waitangi Day events.

On top of the Order Paper is debate on the Prime Minister’s statement with 6 hours and 37 minutes still remaining before a confidence vote is held.

The Government is likely to adjourn the debate for the first reading of the Smoke-free Environments (Tobacco Plain Packaging) Amendment Bill.

Leader of the House Gerry Brownlee has also indicated the Government wishes to make progress on the third reading of the Subantarctic Islands Marine Reserves Bill.

If the debate on the Prime Minister’s statement carries on into tomorrow it could take precedence over Members’ Day.
