Rates Validation Bill Progresses
With some reluctance MPs have progressed another bill validating unlawfully set rates.
Damien O’Connor said the Tasman District Council (Validation and Recovery of Certain Rates) Bill bill was not one he was happy to be sponsoring but did so reluctantly on behalf of ratepayers.
The bill retrospectively validates unlawfully set rates and was passed by 119 to 1 with Mana opposed.
MPs began the second reading of the Sullivan Birth Certificate Bill.
The bill would allow the name of both Diane Sullivan and Doreen Margaret Shields to be recorded on the birth certificate of Rowen Sullivan as her mother, sponsoring MP Louisa Wall said.
