Fog Disrupts Early Sitting Of Parliament

Parliament resumed at 9am this morning to consider a number of treaty bill despite fog causing disruption.

Sitting under extended hours provisions, MPs will debate the second readings of the Te Tau Ihu Claims Settlement Bill, Raukawa Claims Settlement Bill and the Maungaharuru-Tangitu Hapu Claims Settlement Bill.

Leader of the House Gerry Brownlee said fog had ruined the travel plans of numerous MPs including the Maori Affairs Committee who were meeting outside Wellington to consider another Treaty Bill.

Brownlee said this meant many MPs who wished to contribute to the debate were unable to and he wanted to assure those with an interest in the bills this was due to fog and not a lack of interest.
