“Great Progress” To Be Made On Bills

After the coming two week recess the Government intends to make “great progress” across the Order Paper, Leader of the House Gerry Brownlee said today.

Brownlee said in the Business Statement at the start of Parliament today the Government would give priority to the Industry Training and Apprenticeships Amendment Bill, Land Transport and Road User Charges Legislation Amendment Bill and the Credit Contracts and Financial Services Law Reform Bill.

April 9 would be a Members’ Day and there would be an extended sitting on the following morning to advance Treaty settlement bills.

Asked if the Government intended passing the Education Amendment Bill in this Parliament, Brownlee said the Government was intent on making “great progress” across the Order Paper and a number of new bills would be introduced ahead of the House rising on July 31.

A petition requesting the House investigate the use of surgical mesh in New Zealand was presented, as was another petition asking the House to review an Immigration decision

The Auditor-General’s report, Inquiry into property investments by Delta Utility Services Limited at Luggate and Jacks Point, was presented.
