The House In Committee

The Government has lined up six bills awaiting their committee stage consideration as their priority today.

Before the recess, Leader of the House Gerry Brownlee promised the Govt would make “great progress” on bills in the next fortnight, with priority given to the committee stages of the Industry Training and Apprenticeships Amendment Bill and the Land Transport and Road User Charges Legislation Amendment Bill when Parliament sits this afternoon.

The Order Paper today is now reminiscent of how former Leader of the House Michael Cullen liked to arrange parliamentary business, with the House dealing with bills all at a similar stage.

The Government’s progress on its legislation is scheduled to be interrupted tomorrow with Members Day due to be held.

How much progress will be made on Members’ bills though is a moot point with the third reading debates on the Tasman District Council (Validation and Recovery of Certain Rates) Bill and Sullivan Birth Certificate Bill first up, followed by the committee stage of the Electronic Transactions (Contract Formation) Amendment Bill.
