Committee Stage Debates Race Through

MPs raced through the committee stage of a number of bills this evening.

After the dinner break MPs debated the committee stage of the Social Security (Fraud Measures and Debt Recovery) Amendment Bill.

Labour MPs supported the bill, but spoke against it saying the legislation treated beneficiaries in a different way from others who committed fraud. The bill completed its committee stage and was reported without amendment.

The Trade (Safeguard Measures) Bill bill was reported with amendment on a voice vote.

MPs began the committee stage of the Victims of Crime Reform Bill which was interrupted when the House rose just before 10pm.
