1. Labour List for the 2014 Election Announced

The Labour Party has agreed its List for the 2014 General Election. Please see attached.

Moira Coatsworth, Labour Party President, said today:

“An outstanding group of talented New Zealanders was selected for Labour’s list over the weekend. Our Moderating Committee met on both Saturday and Sunday in Auckland and agreed a list of 64 List candidates. The Party’s renewal and the number of skilled candidates meant that the biggest challenge was having to rank 64 people of such high calibre. We are excited by the skilled, experienced people we expect to join our Caucus team”.

2. Campbell Live Investigates Mall Scam

Tonight Campbell Live investigates the predatory sales tactics employed by staff at the Dead Sea Spa at Auckland’s Lynnmall shopping centre.

Over two weekends, an 82-year-old woman was bullied into buying $5,000 worth of cosmetics, mostly wrinkle-cream and for a range of different skin types.

3. TRN Launch New Auckland Focused Radio Station ‘Mix98.2’

The Radio Network (TRN) launched today the creation of a brand new ‘Auckland only’ radio station ‘Mix98.2’ on 98.2FM. The station will leverage the content rich APN Group to keep Aucklanders informed and entertained.

“We have identified a market opportunity in Auckland for a music station that specifically targets 40-54 year olds. Mix98.2 has been created based on these consumer and commercial insights” says Dean Buchanan, Chief Content Officer, TRN.

4. Government’s secret plans to keep ACC judges out of access to justice

Cabinet has signed off on a paper to remove access to the Courts for injured New Zealanders. The plan, which has not had any consultation, proposes ousting judges from deciding the facts of ACC cases.

ACC is beginning to lose significant cases in the District Court – and its costing them money. In a bid to maintain ACC’s role in propping up the Government’s Budget Surplus, the Government has devised a solution: make it harder for claimants to win.

5. Labour MPs to support West Coast timber Bill

Labour’s MP for West Coast Tasman Damien O’Connor and Labour’s MP for Te Tai Tonga Rino Tirikatene will vote for the West Coast Windblown Timber Bill in their capacities as local MPs.

Damien O’Connor says: “While I am disappointed Conservation Minister Nick Smith will not amend the legislation to guarantee West Coasters get much needed jobs and revenue, I still believe this timber should be utilised.
