House Adjourns For Summer

Parliament has risen for the summer break with the Adjournment Motion agreed just after 5pm on Wednesday.

Bill English moved the Adjournment Motion saying it has been a long political year and praised Speaker David Carter for his work despite saying he believed he was making some mistakes in his rulings.

The debate then followed the usual pattern with Mr English and others giving thanks to staff and others, as well as making a few political observations and throwing a few barbs in a mostly humorous way.

Earlier the Energy (Fuels, Levies, and References) Amendment Bill completed its second reading by 110 to 11 with NZ First opposed.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, the Ngāti Koroki Kahukura Claims Settlement Bill and the Ngāti Hauā Claims Settlement Bill both received their third readings on a voice vote.

Parliament will next sit on February 10.
