Education Reform Bill Third Reading

The Government adjourned the debate in reply to the Prime Minister’s statement just before 6pm.

Education Minister Hekia Parata then moved the third reading of the Education Amendment Bill (No. 2).

Ms Parata said the bill would amongst other things set up a new body to give leadership to the education sector to strengthen standards and discipline.

The debate was interrupted for the dinner adjournment.

Earlier Prime Minister John Key gave his speech on the Prime Minister’s statement to Parliament and moved a motion of confidence in his Government. Labour Leader Andrew Little led the debate in reply and moved a motion of no confidence.

There speeches were followed by Greens Co-leader Russel Norman and NZ First Leader Winston Peters.
