Greens Still Lead in Coromandel

The Latest TV One Colmar Brunton Poll shows the Green Paqrty co-leader Jeanette Fitzsimons is still in the lead in the crucial seat of Coromandel.

The poll taken between the 18 – 21 November puts Fitzsimons up five points to 44 per cent and National’s encumbent MP Murray McLean is on 39 per cent, up three.

Labour’s Margaret Hawkeswood is down two points on 11 per cent, the Alliance candidate Tony Bird is down five points to three per cent.

McLean says that while he is slipping behind he is remaining positive.

National's Murray McLean is falling further behind, but says he is staying positive. "The polls are very very volatile at the moment and I think this poll is within the margin of error. It think what it's saying is National's coming up," he says.

Labour’s strategy of unofficially endorsing Fitzsimons appears to be working although their candidate still holds a significant 11 per cent of the electorate vote.

In terms of the party vote in the seat Labour is up five points to 36 per cent, National up one to 32 per cent, the Greens up two to 11 per cent, ACT is steady on eight, NZ First is down to to six and the Alliance is down three to five per cent.

The poll was of 500 eligible voters and has a margin of error of 4.4 per cent.
