Commercial Education Model Dead - Maharey |
||
New Tertiary Education Minister Steve Maharey has said the commercial, competitive tertiary education model is “dead” and that a new think-tank will be considering changes for the sector.
The Tertiary Advisory Commission will consist of about seven people and will provide ongoing advice on changing the focus of the tertiary sector. Maharey said the commission would provide a link between government and the sector.
Maharey said the government wanted to stop institutions competing for students and would ask each institution to list it’s strengths which the government would then fund.
The Association of University Staff have welcomed the proposal.
