Tonight’s Moon Biggest Kiwis Will Ever See

For the first time since 1866 the Summer Solstice and a full moon will coincide tonight, with the moon being the biggest and brightest moon you are ever likely to see.

Tonight’s full moon will be about seven per cent larger than most full moons and will be closer to the earth than it has been in over 70 years. The Met Service describe the event as “the event of a lifetime”.

The orbital factors which bring the moon so close to the earth will also bring abnormally high tides over the next few days.

The moon will be closest to the earth at around 8.45pm tonight at about 350,000 kilometers away. Make sure you see it.
