1) Indonesia's Wahid apologizes to East Timor for militia acts 01/03/00 (Associated Press) DILI, East Timor --Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid Tuesday apologized to East Timorese leaders for the damage wrought by pro-Jakarta militiamen and their Indonesian army backers following an independence vote in a U.N.-supervised referendum on Aug. 30.

2) Gusmao pleads with protesters to hear Wahid 01/03/00 (Australian Broardcasting Corporation) This afternoon the seemingly frail Wahid arrived in the devastated territory of East Timor to a hostile reception from a huge crowd venting their anger over years of repression and violence from Indonesia.

3) 'Wiranto is finished, with no chance of comeback': Juwono 01/03/00 (Straits Times) JAKARTA - Former military strongman Wiranto is finished politically and is unlikely to ever play a dominant role in politics here, Defence Minister Juwono Sudarsono said in an interview.

4) West Timor people urging govt to review Timor Gap treaty 01/03/00 (Antara) KUPANG - People in West Timor (East Nusa Tenggara) are urging the Indonesian government to invite Australia to review the Timor Gap treaty in Jakarta in March, an informal leader said here Monday.

5) UNTAET Humanitarian Pillar Situation Report 26 to 28 Feb 2000 01/03/00 (UNTAET) DILI - Returns: As of 28 February, 146,600 persons have returned to East Timor from West Timor, other parts of Indonesia and Australia in an organized fashion by air, land and sea. On 25 February, an IOM land convoy repatriated some 596 persons from Atambua to Batugade.

6) IOM: Timor Activity Update: 29 Feb 2000 01/03/00 (International Organisation for Migration) DILI - There is a continuing need to return displaced people in West Timor to their communities of origin in East Timor in order for rehabilitation, reconstruction and development to begin.
