FIJI COUP: The NZ Government lost patience with Fiji today. New sanctions were imposed. Fiji’s cabinet gathered for their swearing in only to be told just before the ceremony that the ceremony was off. Under NZ’s tougher sanction regime 41 members of the Fijian army are being sent home. CANCER INQUIRY: An Australian expert says she was astounded when she re-read slides from Dr Bottrill’s Gisborne pathology practice. Dr Farnsworth said the level of cervical cancer in Gisborne was very bad – similar to Vietnam. She likened what had happened in Gisborne to the unfortunate experiment in Auckland.
VOLCANIC ASH: Volcanic Ash from White Island today closed Tauranga Airport stranding passengers. Airports from Whakatane to Auckland were last closed by volcanic ash from Ruapehu.
SUPER CHANGES: Labour is suggesting changes to its plan for a super fund.
NIGERIAN BANK FRAUD VERDICT: An Auckland businessman who stole more than $7 million from friends to fund a Nigerian investment scam has been found guilty in an Auckland court. Rutherford – a former banker – said he expected to get $30 million in returns from the Nigerian investment.
