CERVICAL INQUIRY: The retired Gisborne Pathologist Dr. Michael Bottrill has admitted he has misread an unacceptably high number of cervical smear slides and said he was devastated by the inquiries investigations.

- PREBBLE ON ERB: The ACT Party Leader Richard Prebble has revealed six significant changes to the Employment Relations Bill before it has been published - a possible breach of Parliamentary rules.

- TODDLER INJURIES: The Commissioner for Children Roger McClay says he will be asking hard questions about the role of state agencies in the of a Whangarei toddler from physical violence.

- CONCORDE SCARE: There’s been a fresh scare involving a Concorde jet which was diverted to New Finland after passengers noticed a petrol smell while the plane was en-route to New York. Meanwhile the families of the 113 victims in the Concorde Air-France tragedy are planning to take Concorde to court.

-TRANSRAIL SAFETY INQUIRY: Transrail safety record is full of shortcomings an inqiury into the safety at the company has been told, with workers here more likely to be killed than their counterparts in Britain.

- DESERTER TRIAL: The trial of a major accused of deserting is in its last day today,. with army prosecutors urging for his conviction claiming the major manipulated the media to get public support.

- PEDOPHILES PUBLISHED: The British Home Office is calling for restraint after a British tabloid continued to publish the names and photographs of over thirty pedophiles, saying the move worked against public safety.

- NEW MOTOR HEART: Doctors in Israel have implanted a new form of artificial heart which is likely to remain permanently in the body.

LIBERALS PROTEST In Philadelphia thousands of liberals are protesting on a range of issues at the onset of the Republican National Convention which kicks off the US Presidential election campaign.

- SEARCH CALLED OFF: Auckland Police have called off the ground search for a man missing for over a month in the Waitakere Ranges.

- SPECTATOR BANNED: The chairman of the Horowhenua-Kapiti rugby union says it is determined to permanently ban a supporter who tackled a player in the match final – changing the outcome of the game.
