DIGGING DIRT: TV3 has obtained the
tape of the man who says that Labour Whip Chris Carter rang
him digging dirt on Dover Samuels. The tape is played.
Carter says he wants to discuss Dover in a “non
controversial way” and does appear to be seeking
information. John Yellish who provided the tape says Carter
is mistaken about the circumstances of the call. The PM says
she takes will take the word of her Junior Whip over the
word of a convicted murderer at any time. Jenny Shipley
says the Carter tape proves her allegations while Helen
Clark is accusing Shipley of planning to use the matter to
justify herself to her party conference shortly. Meanwhile
the PM hasn’t spoken to Dover yet. The word from the police
is that they should have a statement on the final
allegations about Dover on Thursday or Friday.
