DRUG BUST: Two men will appear in court in Suva today charged with receiving more than 350kg of heroin. NZ may have been used as a transit point for the haul say police.

SOUTH PACIFIC FORUM: Fiji’s interim PM says his government is confident that Fiji will hold next year’s South Pacific Forum. The interim PM says his country has moved on from the coup, which he condemns. The NZ PM says that if the forum is held in Fiji then she won’t go.

KIWI BANK SURVEY: An Auckland University survey of 1900 bank customers has found 54% support the Kiwi Bank proposal. 44% say they would seriously consider switching banks.

KOSOVO ELECTIONS: Moderate Albanian Kosovo leader Ibrahim Rugova us claiming victory in Kosovo elections with 60% of the vote.

ISRAEL: Israel has sent tanks an armoured vehicles into the Gaza strip to open up a road used by Israeli settlers. Israel says that Palestinians are blocking a road. Meanwhile the Israeli PM Ehud Barak is still trying to form a government of national unity.

ARTHRITIS DRUG: A new drug for arthritis has been identified. Some people have been cured by the treatment completely.

TRUE LOVE WAITS: An education lobby group is concerned that the “True Love Waits” sexual abstinence programme is being promoted without parental consent in a state secondary school in Auckland. Christian Heritage is pleased with the programme’s promotion.

GM INQUIRY: The GM Commission of Inquiry will this week hear from Bio-Teams a group representing GM technology companies and producer boards.

PARALYMPICS: The Paralympics have come to an end in Sydney with a big closing ceremony. NZ won 6 gold, 8 silver and 4 bronze medals. The team arrives back tomorrow afternoon.

RUGBY LEAGUE: The Kiwi Rugby League team has beaten Lebanon 64 to nil in preliminary rounds for the Rugby League World Cup. The NZ Maori Team also won, beating Scotland.
