Lundy Murders - Murder Reward Offered – Road Rage Sentence – Fletcher Energy Sale – Tariff Reduction – Labour Conference – US Elections – Tua Returns
LUNDY MURDERS: Police have a prime suspect for the murders of Christine and Amber Lundy in Palmerston North in late August. Police say they will not identify who their suspect is. Police have released little information in the inquiry except to show media an axe beleived to be similar to the murder weapon. Police say they still can’t say when they will be making an arrest. They say they are waiting for forensic evidence.
MURDER REWARD OFFERED: Henderson Police are offering a $50,000 reward for information related to the murder of Justin Dyne. Dyne’s decomposed body was found in the Waitakere ranges.
ROAD RAGE SENTENCE: A man who carried out a road rage attack on another motorist was sentenced to a six month suspended sentence in Auckland today. The victim, a charity worker, suffered life threatening brain injuries. The brother of the victim was outraged at the sentence and angry with media. The judge said it was painful that someone with no history of violence should appear on such a charge.
FLETCHER ENERGY SALE: The sharemarket and NZ Dollar have reacted positively to news that Shell will be allowed to takeover Fletcher Challenge Energy. Shell is being allowed to purchase FCE conditional on the divestment of most of its NZ gas assets. Shell says it will be creating new jobs.
TARIFF REDUCTION: The government’s decision to remove tariffs on 48 of the world’s poorest countries has received mixed reactions.
LABOUR CONFERENCE: The Labour Party Conference beginning tonight will start by farewelling controversial president Bob Harvey. Mike Williams and Richard Northey are candidates to replace Harvey. Williams was the campaign manager. Northey is a former MP.
US ELECTIONS: A result in the US Elections may be known by tomorrow night or it may not be. Law suits are continuing. Broward County election officials are starting to feel the pressure. Lawyers are everywhere. Both sides are hoping for court rulings in their favour.
TUA RETURNS: David Tua is welcomed home by hundreds in the early hours at Auckland Airport. A multi-cultural welcome. Kevin Barry revealed there is already another bout planned for Tua next year with a top 10 boxer. Tua’s community is building up for a parade on Monday. 20,000 people are expected to take part.
