Wahid Out – Maori Made – Northland Prison – Ashes To Tararuas – Deltec Moves

WAHID OUT: Tanks and soldiers took to the streets of Jakarta yesterday as Indonesia’s parliament voted to dismiss President Abdurrahman Wahid and replace him with his deputy Megawati Sukarnoputri.

MAORI MADE: Creative NZ, which has spent $23,000 filing 234 trademark applications to stop Maori images being ripped off, has had 39 using the words “Maori Made” turned down.

NORTHLAND PRISON: A former top-ranking prison official, on a $1200 a day Corrections Department contract, offered to construct a financial settlement for a Northland family if they withdrew their opposition to a proposed prison site.

ASHES TO TARARUAS: For $125, Masterton funeral director David Dew is offering to helicopter ashes to the top of a mountain peak in the Tararua Ranges and after a short service have them scattered among alpine tussock.

DELTEC MOVES: Award-winning hi-tech Wellington exporter Deltec has been sold to and American company and is closing its business in Tawa with the loss of 45 jobs.
