Bacteria warning at Rona Bay, Eastbourne
Hutt City residents are advised to stay clear of the water at Rona Bay in Eastbourne until further notice, owing to water quality issues.
Recent water quality sampling in this area has revealed high levels of bacteria, which makes it unsafe for swimming and other activities involving contact with the water.
Rainfall throughout the week may have contributed to the high counts at the site.
Health warning signs have been placed at all entrances to the area. Contact with this water could result in tummy upsets (diarrhoea and vomiting), and infections of skin, eyes, ear, nose or throat.
Warning signs will stay in place until daily sampling shows bacteria counts have returned to safe levels.

Bacteria counts at neighbouring bays remain within safe levels.
