The New Zealand economy may be about to turn into a fairy story. Analysts say the latest inflation figures suggest we may be about to experience a so called “Goldilocks Economy”. That’s when economic growth takes place with little inflationary pressures. The Consumer Price Index was up in June just .2 of a percent and prices were down .4 of a percent when compared with the same period last year.

The Northern Ireland peace process is on the brink of collapse. The province’ top deputy-first Minister has resigned and has called on first-Minister to do so as well. The Assembly met briefly but was suspended when the Ulster unionists boycotted the meeting in protest of the IRA not disarming. USA President Bill Clinton says it is vital the parties sort out their differences.

South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission is launching a new inquiry into former President P.W. Botha after allegations he approved the murder of eight black activists. The Commission says it will begin the hearing next week after being given information by former members of the Apartheid era’s security forces. The hearing will look into an incident in 1985 when Apartheid hit-squads supplied boobytraps, grenades and mines to activists who were then killed when try to prime them. Botha (83) won an appeal against contempt after he refused to testify before the Commission last year.
