1. PLANE CRASH - A New Zealander and five Australians are among the 17 dead after an Air Fiji plane crashed on Fiti Levu in Fiji. The cause is not known and the wreckage is an area only accessible by foot.

2. RESCUE - A helicopter has gone to the aid of a Polish seamen injured off the West Coast.

3. FISHERIES - The long running dispute over the Treaty of Waitangi fisheries settlement has led to the Maori Affairs Minister threatening to sack the Commission set up to distribute it. The Chair say there needs to be continuity. The dispute over the place of urban Maori in the settlement, the Commission is holding theire conference ths weekend.

4. MOROCCO - King Hassan of Morocco has died.

5. JFK - A service for John F Kennedy jnr has been held.

6. RUGBY - Auckland is preparing to ‘black out’ for the test with Australia tonight.
