1. CANCER RESEARCH - TVNZ has exclusive details of how a NZ seafood can fight cancer. Research in Australia has found that the liquid from green-lip mussels can kill cancer cells, trials on humans are to start shortly. The researchers found that cancer grew along similar pathways to arthritis. They have been searching for something to block those pathways and they have found a compound ‘lipinol’ (spelling?) from the liquid in green-lip mussels could be the product. The mussel industry in NZ says if it proves to work, they do not think they could grow enough mussels to meet the demand as the Marlborough Sounds is the only place in the world where the mussels produce the compound.

2. MANSLAUGHTER - There have been guilty verdicts in the manslaughter trial in the Angelina Edwards trial. She died after being assaulted a number of times while in the care of a family.

3. MASS SHOOTING - The United States has been rocked by another mass shooting. A man has killed 12 people and injured many more after he went on a rampage in a stockbrokers in Atlanta after killing his family. He killed himself as he was located following a massive manhunt. The man was a daytrader.

4. GRANT ROW - The Internal Affairs Minister is at the centre of controversy over the lottery grant to a Maori performance group to travel overseas. Two children in the group are related to Tau Henare and Tuku Morgan. Trevor Mallard says there is a perception that something ‘stinks’. A government MP says that the trip was not of national signifcance.
