1. GMFS - Labelling genetically modified food is about to become compulsory after a decision by the Ministers in Australia and New Zealand, but the proposals are already being criticised for not going far enough. The deal was a compromise, thrashed out after a marathon meeting. Health Minister Mr Creech says he is happy with the outcome and is defending the integrity of threshold levels for ingredients. There will be some fierce lobbying about the setting of those thresholds with final details to be worked out by October. Green MPs in NZ say the decision does not go far enough with the 'may' option allowing a soft way out. Food manufacturers say it will add to expense. Shoppers interviewed say they have the right to be informed. Officials are also looking at whether mandatory labelling will breach WTO rules for creating a trade barrier.

2.. SUNSCREEN - The advice to smother on the sunscreen has been taken by most people in recent years. But a European study shows that they are being used wrongly and bringing on complacency. People are also not using enough sunscreen during the day. The use of sunscreen on babies has also been cleaned.

3. ROBBERY - A man who robbed an armourguard van at gunpoint has been captured.

4. ROAD DEATH - A fourth teenager has died as a result of the car crash in the Wairarapa on the weekend.

5. ROAD SAFETY - A former gang member has made some streetwise shoestring road safety commercials in an attempt to bring down the road toll amongst Maori. He is trying to get someone to show them on TV.
