SETTLEMENT: The government and IBM have settled over the INCIS police computer out of court. IBM have agreed to pay the Crown $25 million and all sides have agreed to drop legal action.

COROMANDEL: Labour’s Coromandel candidate says she accepts her supporters may vote tactically for Jeanette Fitzsimons from the Greens.

LABOUR: Labour has launched it’s employment policy today saying the policy aims to create job creation in the regions and unemployed people would be individually case managed into work.

ALLIANCE: The Alliance is promising 1,200 new jobs on the West Coast despite ending native logging. Possum fur, pine logging and a sports academy would be boosted.

SAFETY: Safety at Piha beach is being discussed after two men drowned there yesterday and a fisherman on Saturday.

QUAKE: A large earthquake the size of the Edgecumbe quake rocked the North Island today. It was 160 kms underground.

UNSC: The United Nations Security Council has agreed to send a 9,000 strong peacekeeping force to East Timor to take over from the Australians. The handover period may be three or four months.

STEWART: The US Golf Open Champion Payne Stewart has died when his Lear jet crashed into a field.

POLICE: The police investigating an attack on a Manurewa family is being held back as they cannot take fingerprints from the victims as their hands are bandaged.
