ACT Seeks Inquiry Into Auckland Council
ACT MP Owen Jennings is seeking a Select Committee inquiry into the widespread allegations of Auckland City Council's "gross mis-management" of its regulatory function under the Resource Management Act, the Building Act and other related Acts.
Mr Jennings says there is growing evidence of a council unable to reign in the excesses of its staff, of harassed residents reluctant to speak out for fear of retribution, of ruined businesses and lost opportunities and a dangerous interpretation of important legislation.
"For many of these people a Select Committee hearing is the only course of actin that will bring them justice. The Select Committee is ideally suited to bring the truth to light and put in place remedial action," Mr Jennings said.
