ACC EXPECTED TO BE KEY ISSUE AT YOUNG NATS CONFERENCE
The Young Nationals Annual Policy Conference planned for March 23-26 in Wellington is proving popular, with registrations pouring in beyond initial expectations, according to Nationals Youth Vice President Daniel Gordon.
“What is surprising is the interest from people who have never been National supporters, let alone people who would attend a Young Nationals conference!”
“The interest is from people interested in debating the Governments plans to reverse ACC, and reinstate the state monopoly. A highlight of our conference will be a Policy Forum with experts from all political persuasions, who will debate the proposed changes and the expected effects.”
“Labour will have considerable difficulty getting these changes through. They actually have only 59 MPs who support it. The Greens are ambivalent about change - and have been strangely silent on the issue.”
“And of course there are moderate Labour MPs, who are reluctant to support legislation that will reverse the massive savings to schools, non-profit organisations, small businesses, and just about anybody who employs people in New Zealand,” continued Daniel Gordon.
“Its clear that the ultra-left of the Labour Party are driving these changes, despite over 90% of select committee submissions opposing the state monopoly model. Its basically Helen Clark, Ruth Dyson, and Michael Joseph Cullen who, come hell or high water, are determined to get the changes passed as quickly as possible - for blind ideological reasons alone.”
“Helen as Prime Minister has shown no-one is allowed to disagree with her. She is a control freak, and it will be a major test for moderate Labour MPs like Phil Goff, Clayton Cosgrove, and Ross Robertson, to see if they can stomach any more of Helens "take no prisoners" approach to running the coalition.”
“Get out while you can, Phil. Its just the beginning!!,” concluded Daniel Gordon.
