Inquiry critical to clear Waipareira
The Government must instigate an inquiry into operations at Te Whanau O Waipareira so the trust can clear its name and get back to doing what it does well - providing social services to Maori in West Auckland, says National Maori Affairs spokesperson Georgina te Heuheu.
The previous National government has recognised and supported iwi and Maori to deliver services to their communities for years.
“A pall has been cast over the Trust, tarnishing the good work they have been doing for Maori for years.
“It is important for the confidence and stability of Maori social service providers across the country that claims of impropriety are quickly investigated and cleared up.
“It is critical for our shared future that Maori are actively involved alongside Government in developing positive social programmes.
“The Prime Minister is just sitting on her hands.
“If her government is serious about partnership with Maori she would have already called for an investigation to clear up the allegations so Waipareira’s successful social programmes in health, education and development can keep
“The Prime Minister and her government must clear this issue up quickly so that Waipareira can get on with the job,” says Mrs te Heuheu.
